When creating an ortho projection, it is possible to set Rendering method to Image mosaicing (aerial) or Image mosaicing (general). These methods enable users to create ortho projections from images,
unlike other methods which are using textured or colorized dense mesh models. Difference between Aerial and General is in how your cameras are distributed. With the Aerial method it is recommended to have cameras in the same plane,
or in parallel planes, and it is faster than General. General method is used for the projects where cameras are distributed around the object, and it is recommended to be used with terrestrial projects.
Prerequisites for this method, as for other rendering methods, is to have at least one model created. Once the model is created, and selected, the Ortho Projection tool will be enabled for use.
As it goes with any ortho projection, image mosaicing can be displayed with any of the Input layers: Image, DSM, and DTM. There is one more option which is available only for image mosaicing and that is Mosaicing. When this option is enabled, ortho projection is going to be displayed as a collection of seamlines. These seamlines represent the regions and are connected to the images from which each region was created. To change the Input layer, have the 2D view with the created ortho projection displayed and in the Source part of the ORTHO 2D/VIEW context tab choose your layer.
Seamlines can be displayed over other input layers as well. You can activate them in the ORTHO 2D/VIEW context tab by checking the Seamlines checkbox.
If you click on one of the regions on the ortho projection, a corresponding image will show up. Recommended is to use color cursors here. E.g., have a separate 2D view opened, and change its color cursor to Magenta. After that just hold number 3 on your keypad and CLICK on the region for which you want to see the corresponding image. Image will show up with the highlighted region which was used to create the image mosaic.
It is possible to create new regions on the image mosaic and choose which image is going to be used to represent that part of the mosaic.
In the ORTHO 2D/TOOLS context tab are various options for creating new regions. To activate them, CLICK on the Enhance Mosaic button. After that, those options will be enabled.
You can learn more about how to create new regions here.
All created regions can be found in the 1Ds view in Mosaicing under the ortho projection which was used to create those regions on.
If you select one of the regions in the 1Ds view, a selection of images should be displayed in the 2Ds view. You will see them separated into three sections:
Once you are done with your selection of which images you want to use, CLICK on the Bake button in the MOSAIC EDITOR/VIEW context tab, and the created shape will take place on your image mosaic with the chosen images.
